Developer Log - 07/04/21


Approach: Partially modelled an arcade cabinet, for the game project, aimed to model then texture but decided to texture tomorrow. Sourced atari football 2-player cabinet from http://jakobud.com/cabinetPlans.php for the form and shape of the model, but will adjust later to a suitable scale to fit with the intended gameplay.  Used Maya for the modelling, eventually use Substance painter for base colours. 

Started off with the side plane, blocked out with a cube polygon to get a rough scale, ensuring that the image and the polygon are aligned for better accuracy. Then, applied some edge loops and multi-cut segments to line up with areas that will extrude. Did have difficulty smoothing out the direction of the cabinet's edge to draw out the 'wings' at the top, so looked up some topology patterns to at least minimise the risk of adding too much subdivisions, and managed to make a guideline for the top section to imitate the curvature.

Mirrored one of sides and tried to model the centre form to merge together, but edges weren't lined up. Currently figuring out a way to simplify this. Haven't got far but felt that I accomplished a fair bit.
