Developer Log - 05/04/21


Approach: Continuing on with the thematic twist to provoke dread and panic, I took inspiration from the Ring™ and decided to use that as a foundation for how I'd like the final outcome to appear. Smoothed the mesh for the cube polygons and duplicated the cubes to an adequate length to use the deformer tool to bend them into a circular shape to begin stacking them. 

Duplicated the cube polygons and used a deformer > non linear > bend to create a circular shape.


Stacked the circular shape and altered the rotation to give some variance and alignment, whilst scaling the top and bottom shapes to differentiate from the brick pattern.


Created a spiral (using a helix polygon), intention was to model gaps, very thin, in the walls to have protruding metal that meets in the middle from both sides. Scaled the helix and duplicated into three segments to fit within the well and created a flat cylinder face for the well's bottom.

Imported the model into substance painter to block out the colour for the well, mostly using a greyscale for the stacked brick pattern and spirals.
